An eight-year-old Swedish girl Saga pulls out pre-Viking era sword from lake

An eight-year-old girl found an ancient sword before the Viking era while swimming in a lake in Sweden during the summer. The BBC reported Friday.

Saga Vanecek found the ancient sword at Vidostern Lake while in her vacation home in Jonkoping district.

The sword was first reported to be 1,000 years old, but local museum experts believe it can be around 1500 years.

Museum Mikael Nordstrom said, "You do not just walk in the lake every day!" .

The current levels of water in the lake are very low due to the drought, which is why the Saga found the ancient weaponry.

Saga told Sveriges Radio: "I felt like there was something in the water and pulled it out. There was a time, and I went to tell my dad that it looked like a sword."

Saga's father, Andy Vanecek, told the English-language website that he initially thought his daughter had found unusual wood or trees in the water.

Only after he asked a friend for help, he knew it was an ancient sword.

The local museum, which has now retained the sword, said the ancient sword is well maintained.
